Únor je již tradičně měsícem předávání nejrůznějších výročních hudebních cen, které i tento rok vyvolávají zjitřené reakce od věčně nespokojených umělců. Morrissey sepsal své názory na nadcházející Brit Awards do dlouhé úvahy, v níž se píše mimo jiné i toto:
„Brit Awards are unfairly given to singers who, it is hoped, might be encouraged enough by the award to actually write a good song. ... The maximum trimmings divert your attention from the fact that Taylor Swift has nothing to do with Coventry or Wrexham. To pull off rank fraud in tellyland is not a difficult undertaking, especially if you have the entire population of Peru dancing around you as you mime your song.“
Na druhé straně Atlantiku mezitím ztropil skandál další notorický provokatér Kanye West. Když Beck získal cenu Grammy za album roku, dostal Kanye blikanec a vyběhl na pódium, protože nepřipouští možnost, že by toto ocenění mohl získat kdokoliv jiný než Beyoncé. V prohlášení Káněte pro tisk najdeme například toto:
„Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it. Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration.“
